Federal Government Review – Higher Education Base Funding
On 26 October 2010, the Minister for Tertiary Education, Chris Evans, announced the panel and terms of reference for the Higher Education Base Funding Review as part of its response to the Bradley Review of Australian Higher Education.
This review is to deliver the Government’s commitment to:
‘commission a review of the base funding levels for learning and teaching in higher education to ensure that funding levels remain internationally competitive and appropriate for the sector, together with work on options for achieving a more rational and consistent sharing of costs between students and across discipline clusters as recommended by the Bradley Review. This review will report in 2011.’ .
The Expert Review Panel will be lead by the Hon Dr Jane Lomax-Smith, former South Australian Minister for Education. The other panel members are Dr Louise Watson, Principal Researcher in Lifelong Learning in the Australian Institute of Sustainable Communities at the University of Canberra, Professor Beth Webster, Principal Research Fellow at the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research and Director, Intellectual Property Research Institute of Australia and Emeritus Professor Dennis Gibson AO, former Vice-Chancellor of Queensland University of Technology and until recently Chancellor at RMIT.
The review will provide a report to the Government at the end of October 2011.
